Efile service providers will have the capability to electronically submit an authorization or cancellation request with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

For security purposes, the CRA will not accept electronically submitted authorizations for non-registered representatives. Registered representatives are representatives who have registered with the CRA's Represent a Client online service. For more information about Represent a Client, or to register with the service, go to https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/e-services/represent-a-client.html.

When electronically submitting an authorization or cancellation request, the CRA will process it, almost all of the time, in real time.

From the Efile menu, clicking CRA Authorizing or Cancelling a Representative and I confirm will transmit the request.

After you click I confirm, DT Max will automatically submit each authorization or cancellation request separately. The files will be processed in real time, meaning that the response will be almost instantaneous. The results can be viewed from the Results log or from within the client's file.

Please note that if the authorization or cancellation request is accepted, DT Max will write the result into the Progress keyword group. If it is rejected, the error code will be written into the EfileFedRepError keyword.

We also recommend keeping a copy of the Authorization/Cancellation request - signature page in a secure location. The signature page must be kept for six years following the date that the authorization or cancellation request was sent. CRA will be monitoring electronic submissions and will ask to see copies of the signature page. If you fail to provide the pages, CRA will remove you as the authorized representative from the affected taxpayers' accounts and may suspend your electronic filing privileges.

IMPORTANT: Please do not submit paper copies of the signature page unless requested to do so by the CRA.
